Goal Digger – Preparing for New Year

Below are the Notes that I took during today’s Jannah Circle event. The talk was given by Alimah Sana Mohiuddin, who is an Alimah as well as Therapist at Khalil Center.

The talk was aimed towards preparing us for our upcoming year: 2023. Sharing here with the hope that the readers will find it beneficial + I will have it in easy access for upcoming years ❤️ in sha ALLAH.

Bismillah hir Rehman nir Raheem!

We like new beginnings.

Don’t kill yourself over your past mistakes. Do tawbah and be hopeful of Allah.

When we do tawbah we have clean slate.
Step 1 for tawbah is to recognize and accept our mistakes.

Every year when new year starts we feel like we have a clean slate. Clean slate makes us feel like possibilities are endless.

Wisdom is the lost property of a believer. Part of wisdom is to make resolutions.

We should look back at our year – fix what we messed up at. And also look at things that we did right and thank Allah for those. Allah increases us when we do shukr.

Activity

Things you will need: a piece of paper, pencil and eraser.
  • On a sheet of paper.
  • Make two columns.
  • Looking back at your this year. On one side write down your mistakes/sins. And on the other side write things you did right.
  • Now look at the sins’ side and do astaghfar and erase those sins from paper and imagine Allah erasing those from your book of deeds.
  • Look at things you did right and do shukr for them.

Planning For Upcoming Year

Set macro (big) and micro (small) goals for yourself. Micro goals lead us to our macro goals.

All our small goals should lead to our big goal. We should have right intentions- all our goals should lead us to the pleasure of Allah. We should aim at Jannah.

Allah created us with two objectives:
– To worship Allah
– To serve the creation

Everything you do make intention to do it for the sake of Allah. Learn sunnah duas. Dua for waking up, dua for looking in mirror, etc.

We shouldn’t rush (Jaldi ka kaam shaitan ka). We want to be deliberate, slow down and make plan.

Everything in life affects everything in life.
You need to see what led you to xyz sin/action. Check yourself.

Our success is only through Allah.
Seek Allah’s help through istikhara. We should make istikhara for each one of our goals.

One of the ways to lead ourselves to success is to surround ourselves with good people.

Stay alone or be with good people.
Solitude (khalwah) is the way of our Deen. Stay away from negative people.

People can make you feel good but keep you away from what is good for you. Don’t look for people who make you feel good but rather for people who lead you to good.

Allah and your relationship is your responsibility. Anything that impacts your relationship with Allah needs to be removed. Nothing should distract you from your responsibilities, with Allah and/or others.

We all have different social needs. But keep things balanced.

Dua is a weapon of believer. Alimah’s teacher used to encourage her to spend an hour doing dua. There was a woman who made dua for each one of her kids, taking their name, 15 mins for each child (she had 6-8 kids) – imagine how much that would change things.

Make use of dua accepting times.
Make use of times when you are hurting – make dua during that time.
Your duas are never wasted:
– either they are accepted
– or it removes a harm coming your way
– or you get reward for it in akhirah
Make specific duas.

Look at things Allah provided you. At times they may not be the way you wanted but the way you needed. Widen your scope. Allah may not have given you xyz that you wanted from a certain person but given you something better through someone else.

We also did a Vision Board at Jannah Circle event, I’ll be posting about that on my instagram (@ummruqaiya) in sha ALLAH.

Remember Alimah Sana and all the organizers of the event in your duas.
